CAN WE CAN AN 'MMMM' AT DORSET STREET FOOD FESTIVAL 2019?

CAN WE GET AN 'MMMM' AT DORSET STREET FOOD FESTIVAL 2019?

If you've been to a Street Food Warehouse bash before, you know what's on the cards. The atmosphere is great, drinks are flowing, and then we get to the food. The foods on offer are incredible, often rendering people speechless, or impressing a zombie-like state upon foodies as they drool in front of the various offerings that vendors are serving. That illustrious first bite, whether its into a juicy piece of barbeque'd chicken or a slice of pizza, will - we can assure you - make you go 'mmmm!' But when we exclaim 'Mmmm' over our food... what are we saying? M. M. M. M. Well, if you're saying it at Dorset Street Food Festival, we've cracked the code. Buckle in.

Monte Forte

The lovely chaps at Monte Forte will be expecting rangy queues at Devon Street Food Festival, and so they should. Whilst pizza is always a pretty safe choice, their sumptuous doughy crusts and freshly sourced toppings make for something really quite spectacular, even by pizza's standards. Often, connoisseurs will tell you that less is more when it comes to pizza toppings, but it has to be said that whatever your choice for extras, it'll be a cheese-and-tomato-sauce-covered thumbs up for M-mmmonte Forte.

Mac (and Cheese!) - ALP MAC

It's mountainous. It's marvellous. It's the Mac and Cheese by Alp Mac. Voted the best street food in Bristol byBristol 24/7, it's a bowl of hearty goodness that'll take your breath away as if you were atop a Swiss mountain. But you won't be absolutely freezing and knackered. No, you'll be in the Dorset sunshine, tucking into some gourmet Mac and Cheese. It's not just your average toppings on offer, either. Oh, no. We're talking fried duck eggs, buffalo chicken, cider salami or toasted almond salad. Magnificent, really.

Murray May's

The hot weather, paired with the cold drinks supplied by Pop Up Bar Hire, hark to a very British tradition - barbequeing on the beach! It's the Turkish BBQ beauts at Murray May's who are putting some mmmm in your shawarma, as they bring their vibrant food van to Dorset Street Food Festival and take you on a trip to the Aegean Sea. Whether you're after pittas, or maybe meze boxes if you're bootin' the gluten, they've got a host of meaty and veggie (and vegan!) options to cure your craving for some good barbeque. Yummmmm.

Makasih

Putting that final 'mmmm' in your street food bites for Dorset Street Food Festival is the Malaysian wonder stall Makasih, whose food was the talk of the Street Food Warehouse staff at Pembrokeshire Street Food Festival. Our lovely Sophie provides picture evidence for this, if you hadn't already clocked her tucking in at the top of the page. Be sure to get your Malaysian feast on sharpish at Dorset though, as they're always a sell-out. With their delicious selection of curries and other tasty delicacies, it's no wonder why. Ever tried Malaysian Fried Chicken Waffles? Get 'em whilst they're hot. A special mention to the divine vegan curry too, pictured above. Let's hear it one last time, folks... MMMM!

SAY 'CHEESE' AT DEVON STREET FOOD FESTIVAL 2019!

SAY 'CHEESE' AT DEVON STREET FOOD FESTIVAL 2019!

With a giant selection of street food offerings at your fingertips come Devon Street Food Festival, you might feel a little bit spoilt for choice. And you'd be correct in that feeling, because all of the vendors are awesome! However, to narrow it down a little bit, we'll be whipping up a series of pieces on the various types of food that you can dig into, whether you're looking for something a bit international, or you're a raging sweet tooth. For our first deep dive into the foodie mayhem though, we're looking at all things cheese! From Halloumi fries to Mac and Cheese, we've got all sorts of brie-lliant vendors that'll take your fancy.

CLARK'S KITCHEN

Hearty portions of Halloumi means Clark's Kitchen is a big draw for street food festival attendees across the country. It'll be no different at Devon Street Food Festival - here is a vendor that keeps it simple and does 'keeping it simple' incredibly well. Are we allowed to call cheese 'succulent'? Perhaps not, but this hits the nail on the head, frankly. Their hearty portion of Halloumi fries comes with a variety of side sauces (the tzatziki is our recommendation), and the Halloumi patty is a wicked vegetarian main-meal option. Great nosh from Clark.

RUE DE LA COCOTTE

The légendes Français over at Rue De La Cocotte have been taking the street food scene by storm already this summer with their delicious French cuisine. Amongst the hustle and the bustle of the Street Food Warehouse events you'll find plenty of food festival goers stopping and staring at the giant pans of tartiflette cooking out front of the Rue De La Cocotte stall. Tying together the fried potatoes, bacon, onions and other delights is an assortment of melted French cheeses, and hunks of brie atop this mound of carb-y delight. Fantastique!

GOURMET STREET KITCHEN

Mac and Cheese. Now we're talking. The gents at Gourmet Street Kitchen, fronted by lovely Adam, are serious demons when it comes to whipping up the finest of the fine mac 'n' cheese dishes. How do the following sound? The Hot and Handsome adds chorizo and caramelised onion, Banging Bacon piles on the jalapeños and smoked bacon, and not forgetting the veggies, Adam and the gang serve Popeye's Pesto (pictured) - spinach, peas, basil, goats cheese, cashews and sundried tommy's. Get in the queue... behind us!

HANDMADE PIZZA CO.

You didn't think we'd do a big ol' cheesy feast of a feature and not include pizza, did you?! Behave! The Handmade Pizza Co. are coming to Devon Street Food Festival to satisfy all of your doughy and cheesy needs with their wicked - and yes, handmade, funnily enough - pizzas. Perhaps one of the frustrating things about ordering a pizza is the time it takes to make. Those precious seconds when you're waiting patiently for that first slice of heaven can feel like forever. No such issues with this lot though, whose 90-second pizza cooking means its fresh out of the oven and straight into your mouth, no messing.

5 WAYS TO SPICE UP YOUR LIFE WITH ENCONA HOT SAUCE!

5 WAYS TO SPICE UP YOUR LIFE WITH ENCONA HOT SAUCE!

“I want some hot stuff baby this evening, I want some hot stuff baby tonight.” Or so bellowed Donna Summer in her 1979 disco smash ‘Hot Stuff’.We know the feeling. It would be an understatement to say we’re partial to a bit spicy food here at Street Food Warehouse. In fact, we love it so much that we’ve partnered with Encona, legends of the hot sauce game, for our 2019 season. We’ve got our flame-proof thinking cap on and thought of some uses for Encona’s tastebud-tickling array of hot sauces that you might not have thought of before… hit us up on Facebook and Twitter to tell us your top ways of using it.

  • Add a dash to a bloody Mary

An ice cold bloody Mary – a tomato juice, vodka with liberal sprinklings of salt and pepper and a dash of Worcestershire sauce, stirred with a stick of celery and served over ice – is a famous cure for those who’ve overexerted themselves the night before. To kick up your bloody Mary a notch, at a dash of Encona for some additional habanero heat to taste. That’ll put lead in your lead in your pencil.

  • Marinate a roast chicken

For a zingy twist on a traditional Sunday roast, slather a chicken with Encona hot sauce and keep covered in the fridge overnight. You’ll thank us you did. Roast under foil for the appropriate weight, before removing for the last half-an-hour to 40 minutes to crisp up. This will work equally well with chicken quarters or thighs on the barbeque too – we reckon Encona’s Peri-Peri sauce would lend itself particularly well here.

  • Spicy mayo

Combine your favourite mayonnaise and Encona hot sauce to taste for a fired-up sauce. Perfect with fries or to pep up a sandwich. If you’ve got a taste for the avant-garde add some ketchup to the equation for a turbo-charged take on thousand island/Russian dressing, ideal for a game-changing prawn cocktail or revolutionary Reuben sandwich.

  • Liven up your leftovers

A humble bottle of Encona really comes into its own if you’ve got some leftovers from a big meal to use up. Shred up leftover ham or pork shoulder, fry gently in a pan with some peppers, onions, herbs and spices, rice, add some black eyed beans and a liberal splash of Encona sauce and voila! You’ve got yourself a Hoppin’ John – a traditional southern soul food favourite. Or how about livening up a chicken sandwich? It could even make a lively addition to a bubble n’ squeak.

  • Blazin’ breakfast

Encona hot sauce is quite simply a revelation at breakfast time. Add a liberal amount to your bacon buttie or sausage sarnie for a fiery take on the traditional morning favourite. Feel a little daring? Why not boost up your beans with a couple of teaspoons while they’re cooking… and maybe add some grated cheese while you’re at it. Or simply use it to add a bit of sizzle to your full Monty. Breakfast will never be the same again.

Encona Sauces are the official sponsor of the Street Food Warehouse summer tour. Head over to our events page to check out our calendar, and see where you can find us across the sunny months.

TAKE YOUR TASTEBUDS ON A TRIP AT ABERYSTWYTH STREET FOOD FESTIVAL!

TAKE YOUR TASTEBUDS ON A TRIP AT ABERYSTWYTH STREET FOOD FESTIVAL!

In the height of summer, Street Food Warehouse is bringing the famed street food tour to gorgeous Aberystwyth for a packed-out weekend of incredible food from all over the globe (19th - 21st July). Hey, perhaps the odd beer or cocktail, too? Some of you lovely festival-goers will no doubt have your summer holidays booked in, but you wont need to go so far to take your tastebuds on a trip of a lifetime. An international selection of food from some of the UK's best street vendors means whilst you enjoy the Welsh coastline in the sun, your tastebuds will be headed for all corners of the earth. Below we list some of the faraway lands that Aberystwyth Street Food Festival could take you.

JAPAN: SWSHI

Our first stop is a long-haul journey all the way to Japan, as we grab some chopsticks and chow down with Swshi. Alongside these Welsh wonders, we're looking forward to 'letting the good times roll' throughout our weekend in Aberystwyth. Whilst producing incredibly high quality sushi in the heart of our homeland, they're ensuring that their Japanese treats are still Welsh through and through. According to the Swshi gang, "the crab in our rolls is from Cardigan Bay, we get meat from our local butcher in Tregaron, and we use Jonah’s fishmarket in Aberystwyth for our fish. Even the soy sauce we use is made in Abertillery!" If you're a sucker for sushi, we'll see you in the queue.

MOROCCO: STREET FOOD SOUTH WEST / LITTLE MARRAKESH

Next, we head all the way down to North Africa for a taste of Morocco at the Street Food South West stall. This lovely lot can knock up a feast of spice-infusions and charred meats, and don't they look good in front of the camera, too! Whether it's slow cooked lamb or saffron-infused chicken, they're complimented by gorgeous, fluffy flat breads and a rainbow of fresh vegetables, fruits & spices. Some seriously unique and inspired dishes here.

MEXICO: THAT STREET FOOD VAN

The Cardiff-based street food van - yes, That Street Food Van - are rolling around the country dishing out Mexican delights of the highest order, and they're coming to Aberystwyth Marina to take your tastebuds on a trip to Mexico's heartlands. No doubt our mid-July shindig will blessed with beaming sunshine, and what better way to enjoy the heat than with some hearty Mexican and a cold beer? Loaded nachos, tacos and taquitos jammed with meat or jackfruit plus all the trimmings will make for some messy fingers and smiling faces in the summer heat.

ITALY: TAFEL A TÂN

The Welsh-speaking pizza pioneers at Tafel a Tân are taking you day-trippers to Southern Italy with their delicious wood-fired pizzas. We didn't know this until recently, but pizza actually means 'pie' in Italian. There's a fact for you. Every day's a school day, eh? Reading about food and learning different languages, what a dream. Another fact: Tafel a Tân's pizzas will make your mouth water and your eyes pop. This, however, you could probably have worked out for yourselves. Go and grab your self a pitsa (that's pizza in Welsh) and say hello to this lovely bunch of dough-flinging wizards.

MALAYSIA - MAKASIH

Malaysian heaven awaits at the Makasih stand at Aberystwyth Street Food Festival. The family-run business prides itself on hearty, Malaysian-inspired dishes both meaty and veggie, with the most popular being their gorgeous Beef Rendang. Already this year they've been seen racking up hefty queues at events on the Street Food Warehouse summer tour, with some of their dishes being the talk of the town (and the festival). A trip to Southeast Asia that your tastebuds will not be forgetting in a hurry.

For the Veggie: Wallace and Sons

John Wallace, one time high-end chef, has been dishing delicious bao buns from the Wallace and Sons truck for around four years now after packing in the chaotic lifestyle of 80-90 hour weeks in the restaurant kitchens. Much happier these days, John will have you veggie lot drooling with his incredible Beer-battered Cauliflower bao. Accompanied with pickles, tofu and sesame dressing, Wallace and Sons are serving up little fluffy slices of heaven. According to Manchester Finest, John tried a myriad of recipes before getting the bun perfect. “I tried loads of different recipes to make the bread that just didn’t work." he said. "I tried Momofuku’s recipe, but couldn’t even get that to work.” Go and grab yourself some veggie bao, and you'll see what all of his hard work has created.

For the Sweet-Tooth: Extreme Chocolate

Extreme Chocolate, purveyors of incredibly rich and delicious chocolate brownies, have one of those street food stalls that makes people stop, stare and drool. Having racked up over twenty years of cake making and baking experience, the Extreme Chocolate team have spent years honing their craft. Whilst they've got their recipe's nailed down, they still continue to experiment and push the boundaries of brownie-making with all sorts of decadent flavours that'll have you buying 'em by the box load. For the Meat-Lover:  The Dog House

Oh, we do love Lynn and Ron at The Dog House. Extremely lovely people who dish the 'dogs in style. If you're on the hunt for some meaty grub in the sun at Dorset Street Food Festival, heading to see this dynamic duo and picking up one of their loaded hotdogs is a sure fire way of treating yourself. When you get to the front of their hefty queue, you've got two meaty options: the Chilli Cheese Dog - chilli of the day, homemade cheese sauce, guacamole, salsa, jalapenos, chipotle ketchup and crispy onion nachos - or the Kaiser Dog, with gherkin, curry ketchup, mustard, potato salad and wasabi crisps. Mouthwatering decisions to be made.

For the Spice Fiend: Street Food South West/Little Marakesh

Moroccan deliciousness comes from the folks at Street Food South West, aka Little Marakesh, who are serving their delicious and spice-infused flatbreads all weekend long at Dorset Street Food Festival. On the menu, there's spicy Moroccan lamb, chicken shawarma or chickpea tagine slotted into a soft, doughy flatbread. Alternatively, you can also chow down on their tagine pots, with some seriously delicious varieties, all sure to get your spice-buds tingling.

For the Cheesy Chappy: Alp Mac

If your passion is chowing down on cheese, this one's for you. The mountainous Mac and Cheese vendors at Alp Mac are novel in their approach to concocting the wholesome dish, which is a regular favourite for street food festival goers. Using Alpine Cheese as one of their speciality servings, Alp Mac were voted as Bristol's best street food in 2017 by Bristol 24/7. Environmentally conscious and innovative in their foodie creations, if you're a cheese fanatic then look no further than this lovely Mac and Cheesy lot.
