The SummerFeastival: 10 Dishes You Should Try

The SummerFeastival kicked off on the 17th August and runs until the 9th September on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Sophia Gardens. Brought to you by our neighbours, Depot, it only felt right to pay it a visit and recommend some dishes for you all. You’ll find award-winning street food, good music and tasty drinks. We’ve summarised our top picks to get you in the mood for some seriously tasty grub. Plus, entry is FREE.

  1. Dirty Bird’s Fried Chicken Gangnam Style Chicken Wings

These chicken wings are simplistically mouth-wateringly divine; a delicious sticky Korean sauce combined with spring onions and sesame seeds. A definite must try for all wing lovers. Dirty Bird has a wide selection of other tasty chicken goodness which you can get your teeth into.

  1. The Bearded Taco’s Let’s Avo Cwtch

This is arguably The Bearded Taco’s signature dish and it is obvious why. Californian gin and tonic avocado tempura served with a honey and lemon slaw, chipotle aioli and fresh coriander. Could it get any better? Not only is this one for the veggies, they are gluten free too, ticking all the boxes. The Bearded Taco have many other delectable tacos, so head down to Sophia Gardens to try them all.

  1. Brother Thai’s Holy Basil Chicken

Award winning vendor Brother Thai creates Bangkok street food which transports you to Thailand. Their Holy Basil Chicken Thai Roti is a winner; succulent spiced chicken served in a flakey paratha wrap filled with ajat slaw and fresh herbs. Make sure to also check out their vegan option Jackfruit and Shiitakes.

  1. Cheese Lava’s Spinach Fettuccine in Grana Padano Parmesan

Calling all pasta and cheese lovers, do not miss out on Cheese Lava’s unbelievably cheesy Spinach Fettuccine. The pasta is placed into a huge melting Grana Padano parmesan and mixed until each piece of fettuccine is completely covered in cheesy goodness. A definite must try.

  1. The Dough Thrower’s Greenpeace

The Dough Thrower is a firm street food favourite. Whilst it was a tough decision to pick between all their pizzas, we’ve decided on their Greenpeace pizza. A delicious combination of their special blend ‘The Dough Thrower tomato sauce’ with spinach and cashew ricotta, mozzarella fior di latte, pickled onions and basil oil. Definitely check out their whole menu and find your favourite.

  1. Keralan Karavan’s Disco Bhel-bhaji

A new addition to their outstanding menu is the Disco Bhel-bhaji; a combination of two popular Indian snacks. On top is the bhaji; a wonderfully spicy deep-fried fritter. Underneath you’ve got the bhelpuri; puffed rice and vegetables in a tangy tamarind sauce. Keralan Karavan takes southern Indian street food to the next level.

  1. The Pork Society’s Belly in a Box

The Pork Society produces restaurant inspired pork dishes from a vintage-styled caravan. They’ve got an amazing selection of different porky delights, but their Belly in a Box comes out on top for us. Here’s what you can expect: confit pork belly on a bed of crushed potatoes, pak choi and carrot with a chilli and soy sauce.

  1. The Queen Pepida’s Queen Pepida

The Queen Pepida serves up the best Venezuelan food so naturally they are a must try at the SummerFeastival. Our favourite is their Queen Pepida; a divine combination of shredded chicken, avocado and mayonnaise all wrapped up in an arepa. You’ll be back for more for sure, and they’ve got an extensive menu too – try them all!

  1. Spicer’s Meat Wagon’s Pulled Pork Brioche Burger

Meat lovers must try this! Our particular recommendation is their pulled pork brioche bun with house BBQ sauce, home pickled gherkins and red cabbage slaw. They also have a Meat Box, which as you can imagine includes all the best BBQ bits that Spicer’s can offer; brisket, chicken, sausage and pork. Definitely go with an empty stomach!

  1. Science Cream’s Salted Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl

Something sweet to finish off? They’ve created an unreal ice cream combination where they have reformulated their chocolate ice cream so that you can really taste the crunchy peanut butter. They’ve added even more chocolate and more cream, plus crunchy peanut butter and peanut praline. To top it all off, they’ve smothered it in peanut butter cookies and chocolate ganache. Heaven. Be sure to check out their wonderfully whacky recipes.
